Indexing

SUCCESS STORY- When I learned how important indexing is as part of the process of saving the world's records and making them accessible for research, I wanted to participate. I was surprised how easy it was to download the indexing program and get help in learning how to succeed. The beginning batches are very easy and it always excites me to think about someone being able to find people I indexed. I have to admit that old handwriting can be very hard to work with (I haven't even thought about trying to index a foreign language), so I have been very excited by new opportunities to index obituaries because they are typed in English. While there are a lot of fields to keep straight, indexing obituaries is really fun because I don't struggle to determine letters and words and I really enjoy the stories I read. Oftentimes while I have been indexing obituaries I have thought how much a family would appreciate getting access to my work.

Much of the ease and success we are able to find in researching our ancestors depends of whether their records have been indexed. You can be part of the great work of preserving and sharing the records of mankind by becoming an indexer.
